My Project
Angles are the building block of all geometric concepts. My students are able to calculate complimentary, supplementary, and vertical angles. For the capstone of their angle unit, I plan to have students create faux stained glass windows using acrylic and specialized paint.
Each student will design a stained glass window using a randomized prompt of angle measurements and relationships.
This project will highlight the artistry of our class, while also ensuring that the analytic nature of geometry is at the forefront of the assignment.
Students will first respond to their prompt on paper, providing written calculations and showing all work. Once their work is complete and correct, students will use the glass leading, lead lines and glass paint provided in this grant to make acrylic versions of their designs. These projects will hang in our classroom to decorate and illuminate our 100 year old building. At the end of the trimester, students will be able to take the projects home as a way to celebrate their knowledge.
