My Project

As a literacy intervention teacher in a Title I middle school, working with the most at-risk readers, my job is to not only teach student the strategies on HOW to become great readers, but also to help them fall in love with reading! In order to do that, I need to provide various types of books ranging on a large scale of reading ability. This means having graphic novels (their favorite), books in verse, high interest/low level books, and so much more. It also means I need to have books about all the things middle schoolers love such as sports, technology, mysteries, adventure and of course drama. I work in the city of Hartford, CT which is an extremely diverse community, so it is imperative to have books with diverse characters so all of my kids can see themselves in these books. I very carefully picked books that would enhance my classroom library in this way! I also picked books that would become part of my Women's History unit for the month of March! You will find a few items that celebrate my readers such as prizes, awards and bookmarks! Lastly, I added some items that will help my students with ADHD be able to focus better such as seat cushions and desk bands! Although I spend a great deal of money on books, this "library facelift" is far more than I could ever do on my own! I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping with funding this project!
