it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach twelfth grade English in the poorest congressional district in the country, in a school filled with some of the most heartbreakingly inspiring children in the world. Nearly 94% of my students qualify for free lunch and all of them are in need of as much extra support and help as they can get.
My students need a set of basic supplies to provide a foundation for their learning.
Many of my students often come to class without the necessary materials needed to be successful in the classroom. They often are without pens, folders, and notebooks. As an English teacher, it is essential for my students to have paper to write on and pens to write with so that they can see their mistakes and make corrections themselves. My school does not have the funding needed to provide teachers with adequate supplies for their students.
My Project
I want my students to be able to fall in love with learning - to actually be so involved in the writing, reading, and speaking that time in the classroom flies. I want my students to beg for more time to read and write because they want to explore the world of literature. My students are diverse in background and complex in mind and spirit. They believe deeply in friendship, brotherhood, fairness, and heart. They have personally experienced how difficult life can be. My students deserve the opportunity to truly be successful in the classroom and the first step towards this success is to acquire the necessary materials needed.
With your generous donations, you will be able to inflame my students into a love of reading and writing.
My students will use these supplies to become active readers, organized scholars, and curious young people. My students are particularly remarkable little minds, spirits, and hearts and I have no doubt that your small gift to our classroom will be the catalyst to many life-changing experiences in both the real and imaginary world.
