My Project
My students sneak-read, and I love it! After they leave, I find books in their desks, and they even read ahead of the class because they refuse to wait to find out what happens next, and they just love asking for bookmarks.
I carry out a reading campaign each year to push students to read.
In my classroom, the expectation is to find books that interest my scholars and for my scholars to have real-world and critical-thinking discussions on our class readings. This year, I would like to update our classroom library and continue my reading campaign.
This new bookshelf will be used to add new books, the bookmarks will be given to students while they are reading their independent reading books, and the Amazon Gift Card will be used as a reward for the top student of the first marking period ELA average. I love rewarding students for "showing up & showing out." In the past, I used to buy gift cards out of my pocket to reward students, and I would like to continue that process. I know rewards like this motivate students of today to keep pushing through. I believe in having a safe space and showing students that if they work hard, they can play hard too.
