it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can I just tell you how much I love my kindergarten class? My students rush at me the second I swing open the door to welcome them for another fun day of learning, which makes it tricky to shake their hands. I am so lucky to teach a classroom of bright, vibrant, happy kindergarteners.
Our school serves a low-income community where 98% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch assistance, and walking to school can be a scary ordeal given our inner-city setting.
I love math, science and reading, and enjoy teaching students in an engaging, active way that will promote their understanding of concepts and relationships, not rote memorization. Kindergarten is a wonderful place to foster a love for math and reading because the children are so eager to learn, practice, and teach each other their newly mastered skills and/or concepts.
My Project
Many children are tactile learners who learn best by seeing, touching and tracing. Sight-Word Tactile Cards & Magnets will allow each student to quickly find a word they need & post it where everyone can easily refer to it. This encourages the children to independently solve their spelling questions as well as explore new vocabulary words.
Phonemic Awareness Activity Kits & Word Family Flip Books are so important for my students. As English Language Learners, they struggle with letter sounds in English, which then affects their ability to learn to read and write in English. These kits would provide independent practice at each child’s pace.
Since 3 different classes share one classroom, space is at a premium. The Turn & Learn Mobile Chart Stand holds 12 posters and charts in one compact piece. This means that my students will be able to easily refer back to a chart, graph or illustration to practice reading, checking their work, or updating our class graphs.
