Give Me A High 5 For Daily 5

My students need a rolling easel to use during Daily 5 activities to work on reading and spelling activities.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Rinnert's classroom raised $490

My Students

My 1st grade students love using the Daily 5 literacy structure to improve their reading, writing and spelling skills. While students are working on independent activities, I am providing reading intervention, enrichment and reading with students individually or in small groups.

My students are curious, motivated and creative students that enjoy using the Daily 5 program to improve their literacy skills.

The students in our classroom come from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds. Our school is an inclusive setting that teaches students with disabilities in the same classrooms with students who are developing typically. The students love learning together and need the opportunity to share skills. The students are a diverse learning community that works together. Inclusive education means that children who reflect the demographics of the surrounding region, including children who develop typically, children with special needs and children who are gifted, learn side by side. My school's model allows for the individual needs of each child to be addressed in a manner that enhances each child's strengths.

My Project

These materials will allow students to practice skills in new ways. One of the ways I will use the materials will be to provide small group spelling lessons that teach short and long vowel pattern, as well as reading instruction to teach reading high frequency words. Students will then use the easel to spell words using magnetic letters and to practice writiing the words using dry erase markers. I will use the easel to display spelling words for that week so that students will have exposure to those words throughout the week. The item I am requesting will enhance my student's learning by allowing them more opportunities to practice spelling and reading skills in a fun way. Students are motivated by being given the opportunity to choose the activities they have strengths in and enjoy doing.

This project will enhance the learning in the class by allowing students to choose another way to practice their reading and spelling.

I am always looking for fresh ways for students to practice their skills and these materials will provide that for my students.
