My Students

The students at my school generally come from low economic backgrounds. Most students crave that extra support from other adults around the school. Also, these students need some extra guidance academically, behaviorally, and socially.

As the resource teacher/special educational teacher, I have the pleasure to work with students in a smaller group setting, giving my students that extra support that they crave academically, behaviorally, and/or socially.

I have the opportunity to meet each of my student's individual needs to help ensure success in that child, and to see them explore the feeling of accomplishment that every child wants to achieve.

My Project

Working with students that struggle academically, behaviorally, and/or socially, I am always looking for different ways to help my students reach their fullest potential.

I have been looking into different types of classroom furniture, and I have found research on how changing the furniture in my classroom can help impact student success.

"Balance balls were originally developed in the 1960s for physical therapy purposes; who knew that one day they'd be recommended for children who have trouble focusing in school? But today, that's just what's happening. Balance balls might be just what the doctor ordered to help children reach their full potential in the classroom, especially for those with sensory processing disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or just a strong need to fidget." This is a quote from the author, Karen Lynch, in her article "How Sitting On A Ball Helps Kids Focus And Do Better In School".

My students have sensory processing disorders, cognitive disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorders, learning disorders, autism, emotional disorders, and depression. Many other students in our school suffer from these disorders as well, not just the students I work with.

I want all students in our school that suffer from any disorder, to have everything possible to help them achieve. So many times in their lives they have been told, "You can't do it!" I am here to let them know, "Yes, you can do it!" Giving students different options to move while learning in the classroom, or for students who need a break, is one step closer to giving these kids access to a tool that will help them achieve more in school.
