My Project
Reading is a fundamental skill that kids need for life. Literacy is directly correlated to success late in life. And kids need to know that they can read and that reading can be joyful! Graphic novels allow them to do so, especially for learners who are reluctant to read or who arrive in high school thinking that they are not good readers or that reading is too hard or never fun.
I want to reignite joy for students in reading, and finding books that are exciting and non-threatening to kids as that find gateways into the wider world of literacy so that they can engage the world with empathy and critical thinking.
I want reading to be fun, a choice, and not a chore. Having a robust classroom library of graphic novels can help facilitate that.
