Our school district spans five rural communities in the Eastern delta region of Arkansas. The area is large, and many students must ride the bus for long periods of time just to get to school. They depend on the school for transportation, food programs, and exposure to all things educational. We are a diverse population brought together for the purpose of learning.
With such diverse economic and cultural backgrounds coming together, our district strives to meet each student where they are and equip them for learning and progressing to the next level.
My Project
Continuing pandemic crisis, poverty, and habitual drug use are hitting our area hard. More than ever, my students need an outlet to express their emotions and de-stress. Having keyboard time during my class would give kids the chance to free-play and improvise on these instruments will help kids deal with stressful issues.
I want to offer kids the chance to put those headphones on and "play out" their feelings in a safe environment.
We live in a rural area in Northeast Arkansas, and piano teachers are scarce! Many students will never have the chance to learn this method of handling stress or the joy that playing keyboards can bring if they don't have the exposure public schools offer.
