Give Art to My Crew to Elevate their Mental Health
Help me give my students in CREW (advisory) materials to create wonderful experiences in 9th grade through art projects and fun games that will not only improve their mental health, but also help them bond with their crew mates.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We know that art improves mindfulness AND our mental health because it provides an outlet for emotions that can be difficult to express.
My goal is to create fun and artistic experiences that my crew (advisory class), will remember for years to come.
For example, I have planned various painting activities throughout the year as well as making gingerbread houses during the holiday season and creating leaf ornaments for Thanksgiving. Many of my students don't often get to make art or experience themed events at home.
My crew is also competitive and they like playing games, whether it is UNO or Four Corners. I'd like to reward them with yummy treats and take them outside once in a while to play in group activities. That's why I included in my project yummy treats, a basketball (their favorite sport), and a fun board game that has a drawing component!
While we also have academic check-ins and peer tutoring days, it is important to make sure that my crew knows that we also come to crew class to increase our friendship bongs with our fellow crew mates and to make wonderful memories.
