My Students
Teaching first grade brings joy to me each day. My students come from a variety of backgrounds from our local West Philadelphia community that melt together when we are in class because we are able to learn more about each other from academic learning experiences, as well as social. For example, reading books together and independently, explore math through manipulatives and songs, as well as incorporate other subjects and social experiences. We take ownership of our urban community inside and outside of the school by helping others through reading partners, volunteer cleaning, and walking home together. We all work together to improve our school!
My Project
Many of my first grade students already enjoy using pencils, markers, and crayons to create a variety of pieces that correlate to our academic focus, such as animal research projects and story telling, as well as their own personal interests. These young artists enjoy drawing their favorite characters, writing notes/cards to their loved ones, and they also enjoy creating their own patterns and stories.
I've created this special project, "Give Art a Try" so that my first grade students in West Philadelphia have access to quality art materials that will allow them to fully express themselves through the arts at their young ages.
