My Students
I have the privilege to teach preschool age children 3 to 5 years old at their neighborhood school. Our preschool program services typically developing students as well as students with varying disabilities that may include: speech language impairment, Down syndrome, autism, and developmentally delayed. My students are learning their letters/sounds, colors, shapes, enhancing fine/gross motor movements, engaging with peers, and many more skills to help them be successful in their educational adventure.
My students are curious about their environment, ready to learn, and willing to play with new toys and manipulatives.
My students may not learn at the same pace, but we have a wonderful, caring staff that is willing to provide individualized instruction for students in our class. It is important to provide students the opportunities to explore their surroundings, build friendships, provide positive praise throughout the day.
My Project
Early child brain development is key in helping our preschoolers build and expand their language. We have wanted to enhance our Science Center for some time, and have not had the resources to do so. This project will definitely give us that opportunity! With the variety of materials we have chosen: microscope, rocks, fossils, puzzles, and books, my students will have many things to explore and become curious about. Curiosity is a big part of our classroom environment. Disability or no disability, providing our preschoolers with hands-on activities will help build their fine motor skills, provide opportunities to share, allow students to engage in conversation, and allow students to develop and/or enhance their way of asking questions.
Preschoolers will be able to put on their "discovery" hats and explore the many adventures of the Science Center.
Our preschool team will support our students along the way of scientific discovery, as they become familiar with the new materials. It will also give me the opportunity to incorporate science more into our large and small group lessons. Wish us luck and we march down the path of discovery!
