FULLY FUNDED! Teacher Young's classroom raised $872

My Students

The varsity girls basketball at CSS was out of commission in the 2018-2019 school year. The team was comprised of a group of passionate and dedicated young women of color who are now fighting to get their team back, but they can’t do it without the proper funding. For their team captain, assembling this team is about more than just basketball, it’s about leaving a legacy, and opening a door of opportunity for years to come. Basketball is an escape from reality for some people, and for others and athletic scholarship is their only chance to afford a higher education, and it would be a shame to deny these young girls an opportunity to rise out of adversity simply because their school can’t afford to run a basketball team.

My Project

In order to create a lasting team, they need jerseys to wear. Not all of the girls can afford to get customized jerseys with their names, which means they need the school to provide jerseys for them, and hopefully if the team continues to be as beautifully diverse as it is, the jerseys available need to have a range of sizes for all of the girls. They also need shorts to play in, and both the shorts and jerseys need to be reversible from dark to light color in order to comply with regulations.

Not to mention that when a team gets matching clothes they feel a sense of closeness and unity, which benefits their performance on the court and off when representing their school.

Also, the team needs basic medical supplies, as it is a contact sport and accidents do happen. They need things like bandages and wraps, ice packs, hand sanitizer (basketball players touch the bottom of their shoes a lot). Help us keep our revitalized team safe!
