This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a low income high school located in Georgia. These books will assist my 12th grade AP U.S. Government students in preparing for the AP exam in May 2010. If they are funded, my students will have a much better chance at passing the exam and earning college credit!
As I mentioned above, the school I teach in is in a very low income area. Students working to help support their families is not uncommon. As a result, purchasing even a $15.00 book to help them prepare for this very important exam is out of reach.
Every year, I have students begging to borrow the few copies of AP exam preparation books that I own. While I always loan them out, 4 books for 50 students is just not enough. The books requested will greatly expand our classroom library and allow many more students to check them out. In addition, this will allow classroom activities using this class set.
Your help in purchasing these books will ensure that my students have a real shot at passing the exam in May. Further, students for the next several years will be able to use them as well!
