My Students
Picture yourself: A teenager, dragged out of bed at an ungodly hour and starting class by 6:20AM. Imagine doing this every day of the school year . . . sound tough? It is! It is no easy task to be at school rehearsing difficult music when you're hardly awake. Yet, we do that every day in Jazz Ensemble.
My jazz students are the types of individuals who show up early and do so with a smile.
Okay . . . I'm lying. They come in like zombies and consistently complain about having to wake up early. Still, I teach a resilient bunch of kids who are dedicated to making music and improving each day they are in rehearsal. These kids show up every day at 6:20 in the morning and give their all to making music with their peers. It is absolutely inspiring.
Unfortunately, however, our school (along with many, many others) face a budget crisis. Our schools are not adequately funded. Therefore, it is very difficult to get the funding needed to effectively run a band program. That said, we do the best we can. My students excel regardless of the circumstances facing them. I could not be more proud to be their teacher.
My Project
Jazz Ensemble is a relatively new experience for many of my students. About half of my students had never played jazz prior to this year. As a new teacher this year, it was especially important to understand the abilities of my students and determine where they could be pushed musically. Next year, the ensemble will continue to develop while adding additional performances throughout the year. Extended performance opportunities is an integral next step for my kids. This is where the requested supplies come in handy.
The binders and sheet protectors requested in this project will be used to create gig books for my students to use throughout the year. When they begin Jazz Ensemble in the fall, these books will already be organized with the music they will be performing throughout the year. This will help my students stay organized as they develop their performance abilities from September to June. While this may seem simple, I believe this will help my students substantially.
Your donations of gig binders and sheet protectors will help our Jazz Ensemble reach new heights of performance.
Since our small department budget does not allow room for such a purchase, your donations are greatly appreciated. Please remember that gratitude as you continue supporting teachers through DonorsChoose.org. Thank you!
