Giftedness and Leadership

Help me give my students resources to build their leadership skills and books to help them understand their giftedness.

My Students

My school provides a rigorous and safe learning environment for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Three-quarters of my school's population receives free or reduced-price lunches.

We are located in rural Arkansas where the majority of my students have limited access to new technology.

My students are creative, smart, and love to solve problems. I am the school's Gifted and Talented Coordinator for grades K-12, the K-6 STEAM teacher, as well as the Robotics and Chess coach. I love providing opportunities for my students to shine through new experiences. My goal is to create an environment that fosters their creativity and boost their confidence.

My Project

I teach my school's gifted and talented kids ranging from 3rd grade all the way to 12th grade. They are wonderful students, but there are many that do not fully understand what it means to be gifted. They have intense emotions and interests, are often bored in their classes, and love hands-on and real-world activities.

These resources will not only allow my gifted students to better understand themselves, but they will also equip me to teach them valuable lessons in leadership.

The Survival Guide for Gifted Kids and the Gifted Teen Survival Guide will be used in class and loaned to students to help them understand their giftedness. The workbook will also be used in class to start discussions and prompt reflection from my students. The leadership books contain lessons that will guide students to define leadership characteristics and guide their biographical research on various leaders. Students will then choose their own leadership project to help their school or community.
