Children come to kindergarten functioning on many different levels of readiness, and it is my job to teach them on their individual level. Each year, there are several students that come to kindergarten already reading. These students need materials to keep them engaged!
I teach twenty-one wonderful students in an all day Kindergarten classroom in a high-need community.
My classroom is hands- and brains-on, and we love to learn from one another and through music. We love to sing and dance. My goal is to inspire my students to believe in themselves and become lifelong learners. They have made my life brighter, and I would like to brighten theirs in return!
My Project
My gifted students need sets of books that will interest and challenge them and an organizer to store the books! In our high-need community, there are local agencies and initiatives that intervene to help children prepare for kindergarten. Their efforts are certainly paying off, and some of my students are coming to school reading and ready to read.
For these students, the kindergarten reading curriculum simply does not satiate their interests and abilities. My students would benefit greatly from access to first and second grade readers. I know my students would love the opportunity to read these high-interest stories.
In Ohio, school budgets are continuously being stretched thinner and thinner.
For that reason, my students would never have access to these books. In my classroom, I strive to teach each child on his/her level, but I need your help to do that. My gifted students need appropriate reading materials to provide them enrichment. Your donation can help my students excel even more!
