This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My gifted students are always on the go. As the district's gifted Academy, we have a large population of students who have different learning needs and styles. One way to reach our gifted learners is to provide them with innovative materials. My students are from diverse backgrounds and need every chance I can provide them for differentiation and unique learning opportunities. We are a Title I district and I am always on the lookout for innovative teaching methods to engage my gifted students. My students are always excited to learn!
My Project
These materials such as Plus Plus construction items, origami paper, and straw builders will make a difference in my students' lives because these are hands-on materials that will help me to run a before school club for gifted students in the inner-city. Students will use these items to encourage divergent thinking in quantitative, verbal, and nonverbal ways.
This enrichment time allows gifted students a play where they belong as a time to get together as a community of learners where everyone thinks in the same out-of-the-box way.
Students have not only built positive relationships within the club but also now have a sense of community where their gifts are honored.
