Help me give my students diverse and engaging graphic novels about sports, history, and real-life to increase their love of reading in the classroom and beyond!
My fifth-grade students strive to be students of the world. Our school provides as many opportunities to have students reach outside our small community to reach their dreams as we can. They are a capable and motivated group who have big dreams of careers including math, science, dance, art, technology, sports, and more!
Participating in STEM education prepares my students to live in the ever-evolving 21st century where technology and science are at the forefront!
I have 30 students, comprised of English language learners, special education students, gifted-talented advanced learners, and more! They are a group of creative students who love to read and deserve a safe space to grow into the young adults they are destined to be.
My Project
Kids naturally have a love of stories. They love seeing pictures and engaging in their imagination to travel to worlds beyond our reach. Our classroom library allows free travel to worlds, places, and seeing people that are outside our reach. Students want books that feature characters that they can relate to, present information in new ways, and are just down-right entertaining!
With these new graphic novels, students will be able to increase their love of independent reading with books that feature characters that look like them and content that is important in their lives.
They will love the choice of books that this collection provides and the wide range of titles, to help expose them to new genres they may not otherwise reach for. Graphic novels help students engage in texts and build reading skills that plain text doesn't otherwise afford. My hesitant readers can't get enough of the graphic novels and these books will help build their reading stamina and love of reading.
