Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a Title 1 school so many of my students live below the poverty level. My students have had limited exposure to the arts outside of school. In addition, our budget is very tight. It is hard to get a lot of money to spend on art supplies.
Many of my students are English Language Learners and/or have special learning needs.
Art instruction is very beneficial to them. They love having opportunities to explore their creativity in a hands-on way.
My Project
My students love any opportunity to be creative and use cool, new art materials. I know they would absolutely love using these boards. Furthermore, I travel from class to class. The easy transport and setup of these easels will enable me to give them a lot more painting opportunities.
In addition, I think the easels could be very helpful in managing behavior problems as well.
They can be a tool used to soothe students who are upset or angry for some reason. They can also be used to offer painting time as a good behavior incentive. Many of my students have very stressful lives, and they could definitely benefit by using these zen artist boards.
