This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

With an emphasis on developing verbal and critical thinking skills, the new Common Core Standards pose a big challenge for most of my students. This was evident in the result of the New York State ELA exam. These materials will help to teach and prepare my students more effectively.

My students always exhibit a willingness to learn despite many challenges.

My sixth grade students attend a public school that is located in one of the poorest congressional district in New York. Most of them come to school below grade level and without supplies. Therefore, teachers have to supplement what these students need from out of pocket.

My Project

These Common Core ELA materials will help to develop my students' verbal and critical thinking skills. The new Common Core standards pose a big challenge for my students. This was evident in the result of the NYS ELA exam. These materials will help to teach and prepare my students more effectively. I also need ink for our class printer, markers, coloring pencils, and storage crates for my students' portfolios. These supplies are materials that my students and I need to begin the 2013-2014 school year.

The new ELA exam, which was aligned to the new Common Core Standards for the first time, was much more rigorous and demanding then ever before.

This was evident in the result of the New York State ELA Exam. The materials I am asking for will better prepare my students for the ELA exam, give them more practice with the new Common Core Standards, and develop their confidence as critical thinkers.
