Getting the Most Out of Virtual Learning!

Help me give my students the opportunity to receive fun and interactive virtual hands on lessons!

My Students

I have the privilege of teaching at four Title I schools in my district that have diverse populations of students from all over the world. There are students from ten different countries at my schools.

My students enjoy reading, project-based learning activities, robotics and being creative.

I have the unique opportunity to teach Horizons, a gifted class at these schools. My students shine when I bring LEGO bricks or electronic kits into a lesson about animals, critical thinking, or problem-solving skills. With our students' economic backgrounds, they don't get many opportunities at home to interact with materials to encourage creative thinking.

My Project

I have requested the Black Magic ATEM Mini video switcher, Lego WeDo 2.0, Lego Spike Prime Set, CoDrone Classroom Drone Set a to turn my virtual classes into hands-on virtual classes which includes several of the Essential 8 technologies like robotics and coding, electronics and circuitry, engineering & design and coding with drones These materials would be used with cameras that I already have. With these materials, I can teach live lessons with up to 4 different inputs, like cameras, shared screens, videos, and Zoom guest.

These resources will revolutionize my virtual learning by giving me more options to instruct with.

My district has adopted a hybrid model where students are on an "A or B" schedule. One group of students come on Monday and Wednesdays while the other group of students come on Tuesday and Thursdays. Everyone is virtual on Fridays.

Over the last month I have gathered and sorted many of my robotics kits, electricity kits, Lego kits, and other engineering kits. With these resources and the ones from this grant I have created class sets of resources for each individual student that teach the Essential 8 technologies promoted by the PwC Charitable Foundation.

I have created several lessons where students would receive hands-on items like Snap Circuit Kits to teach about the properties of electricity. Each students would have a complete Snap Circuit Kit with instructions and assignments. These materials would be sanitized and delivered to a classroom. I would use the Black Magic ATEM Mini to teach the students virtually. With this resource I can have up to 4 inputs like cameras, Zoom guest, videos, and shared computer screens. I can teach a whole lesson with many resources virtually and guide students through their hands-on assignments.
