This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Through the generosity of DonorsChoose donors, my life skills classroom was able to start a coffee cart. We sell coffee, tea, and hot chocolate to teachers and staff on Fridays during Advisory for a $1 donation. It has been a wonderful experience for both the recipients of our treats and my students have been able to practice numerous daily living skills that are so crucial for them to learn and develop. We use the money collected on Friday to keep our cart stocked up and also to complete life skills activities in the areas of cooking and crafts that require materials outside of our school stock room.
We are looking ahead to spring and we think that ice coffee may be a huge hit when the weather, here in Rhode Island gets warmer.
An ice machine would allow us to add ice coffee to the menu on our coffee cart. My students look forward to advisory on Friday because they know we will be delivering treats to members of community that support our cart each week!
