This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are excited to learn and connect. They are natural storytellers and seek safety and inclusion. We are a community of learners and multiple languages are spoken. We honor students backgrounds and I strive to create a comfortable and challenging learning environment. Many of our students are from Central America and México, and their families have been through a lot to be here. They value education and I feel extremely blessed to be their teacher in these early years of kindergarten and first grade.

My Project

These products are items we continually use in the classroom. We use white board markers to learn to write and spell, we use playdough to develop those fine motor skills young children really need, we use magnetic letters to build words, and these items need to be constantly replenished. We use sheet protectors to store the songs and poems we read year round. The homework folder is sturdy and helps keep the home to school connection strong.

Many of our students' families are from low-income homes, and these items are a big help to getting our classroom space organized and ready to start the school year.

We begin the year learning about kindness and what it means to be in school and the books help create space for dialogue and a common understanding. We create community and learn about being in a group.
