This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am currently working as an elementary school counselor servicing students in two schools in Ozone Park, New York. Having experience in two buildings, I am able to work with such a wide variety of needs. I work with both general education and special education students. I provide individual and group counseling to students as well as whole-class instruction through push-in lessons.
I love my students because I am able to learn just as much from them every day as they learn from me.
While I went to school to be a counselor, I learn every day how to be a better counselor because of my students. My students are experiencing a trauma that they have never experienced before and they need social-emotional support.
My students are special because they come from all walks of life. No two are the same. Each one of them holds a story of how they became who they are today in this very moment. Those stories are what make them unique and special. Who they are as a person- their qualities, their interests, likes, dislikes. Where they shine, where they need growth. Those are the things that make them special.
My Project
The use of technology is increasing and our students are more tech-savvy than ever. Through remote learning, students are using devices at home to help them best support their learning. The iPads allow me to provide a new way of social-emotional learning to my students. There are a variety of different tools and resources that students can be able to use on their own individual iPad. When working in small groups, students will have the ability to work on a more individualized goal.
By donating to my project, you will not only help to improve and increase student motivation and learning, but you will also be helping them work towards their goals in counseling.
Students will be able to view videos related specifically to their goals and work can be individualized. Individuals can also monitor their goals through the use of Google Slides. Virtual learning has allowed so many more windows of opportunity to open for students in the remote world. These iPads will be used in school during student counseling sessions. Students will be able to access their goals and complete activities through in-person lessons. When donating to this project, the addition of technology will be implemented into the counseling sessions.
