Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kids/Technology are our future! I teach 4th grade in a 85% English Language Learner, Spanish speaking school in an underprivileged neighborhood in Richmond,CA. There are scarce resources for enrichment and interest-building materials/tools.
Most of my students' parents have less than a high school education, and are at the poverty level financially. This means that my students have very few chances to see what's possible out in the real world. They don't have exposure to literature, internet, reference materials (such as dictionaries, thesauruses, encyclopedias, almanacs, content websites, geographical sites, etc.). Also, engagement in school studies is a constant challenge. Getting students motivated to learn, and 'hooked' into Science is crucial to teaching science. Reading literature, viewing pictures, videos, graphs, sound read-alouds all help to 'pull them in'. Also, teacher interaction, editing, and manipulation of content is important to meeting the individual needs of the students, whether they be visual learners, learning disabled in some way, or English learners.
With an LCD Projector, my students will be able to view in multiple ways, Science content that is brought to life. As opposed to a regular overhead projector, an LCD Projector is a palette on which I, the teacher, can 'paint' a beautiful picture of Science content in a clear and effective way. Also, this projector will expose my students to technology on a daily basis, and become familiar with tools that are readily used in the workplace.
My students will be very grateful for your generosity and interest in their education!
