My Students

As we navigate this school year, many of our students were adversely affected by the drastic changes that have impacted our current academic schedule. This public health crisis has already posed significant challenges for our community.

With the health and safety of our faculty, staff, and students at the forefront of our minds, we shifted from face-to-face classes to virtual instruction to help slow the spread of this virus.

However, this fall, our school will reopen for 100% in-person learning pursuant to local, state, and federal guidelines. Teaching science in high school with very limited resources and material can be very frustrating, especially when I have students who want to engage in activities that allow them to explore and investigate concepts and ideas. The majority of my students are below proficiency in language arts, science, and math. They work hard and are eager to learn. Thirty-five percent of students enrolled are economically disadvantaged. With the economic problems our country is experiencing, most of my students have parents who have been laid off from work and are now facing home foreclosures or staying with foster parents.

My Project

School supplies have a positive impact on every student's ability to learn and engage in the classroom. Studies have proven that when students have access to supplies they need to investigate phenomena, create imagery, models, and crafts, their grades, and classroom behavior improves and they become more excited about school and learning. Laboratory supplies like the Go Direct pH probe connect via Bluetooth wireless technology or via USB to the computer.pH is an important quantity that reflects the chemical conditions of a solution. The pH can control the availability of nutrients, biological functions, microbial activity, and the behavior of chemicals. Because of this, monitoring or controlling the pH of the soil, water, and food or beverage products is important for a wide variety of applications. The wireless component allows students to work and collect data without the hassles of a wired connection. This material will ensure that every student who comes to class will have materials they can use to support their investigation. With these supplies at the tip of their hands, my students can easily get their work done and increase their creativity and love for learning
