Getting Sharp(ie) with Color!

Help me give my students the opportunity to use vibrant colors in their work. They love using sharpie markers and it gives me the opportunity to talk about taking proper care of our supplies, so they last.

My Students

I work in a Title I school in Northeast Philadelphia. Almost all of our students come from economically disadvantaged households. We also have a very large population of ESOL students. Despite the many challenges facing our students, they all come to school ready to learn, ready for adventure!

There is a strong culture in our school of joy but also responsibility and respect.

If you walk the hallways, it is evident that the students are engaged in learning and the teachers and staff are creative and driven.

My Project

Sharpie markers are one of the most popular tools in the classroom! The bright, vivid colors and great black and white contrast that you can acheive with them cannot be compared. The markers that most of my students used in elementary school have their solid purpose, but middle school students should be given the opportunity, the privilege to use better quality materials. It is a very good way to teach proper use and storage of art materials. If they don't take care of them, they loose the privilege of using them. I use Sharpie's on most of my projects throughout the year, so I am always needing to replenish!
