This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are excited. Excited about reading. This isn't all that common unfortunately, but my students are looking forward to reading a book of their choice, and many are choosing this book, "Shut Up, This is Serious." The author Carolina Ixta is an alumna of our school and came to visit us a couple of months ago to discuss her book and her writing process.

Her story is meaningful to my students because it takes place in their neighborhoods and in places they know, which is powerful.

They are eager to start reading for their independent reading project, and this will be the first year I have been able to offer this book. Please help us to add to our classroom book collection by bringing this wonderful book to students.
