Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Helping my class to become strong, confident and considerate young men and women! I teach 5th grade at an inner city dual language school in Connecticut. Our students take classes in both languages with the goal of being fully bilingual at the end of their 8th grade year.

Throughout just about everyone's life there is a time in which you've been bullied. Bullying is a serious offense at our school. In order to make it a level playing ground - I'd like my students to read books from all aspects; the person being bullied, the bully's side, and a former bully who is now being bullied by someone else.

At our school, we have no funds for anything right now. I've put in as much as I can to get these books, I currently own 5 copies of each one, but I need help, so we can read the stories as a class. I want them to have the experience of talking with each other about their own experiences, but to do it as a class, so we can see that everyone has been there at one point in their lives. Once we've read the books, we'll be doing a project comparing the books and the students will have to come up with other ways to solve the problems.

The goal of this book study is to help my class become strong, confident and considerate young men and women! I don’t want you to think of this as something that my students need to complete for school, but an assignment/project that will help them become a better person in life. By helping us with the books, you can help my students to grow.
