Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am teaching a group of third and fourth graders this fall! It's a diverse class with talents and needs. It's a different kind of year however, we are taking on new tasks and will persevere.
My classroom is about building skills to work together as a class.
The work we do in this classroom is building relationships and learning in Spanish! Every student in the class has a bilingual buddy to assist them with the language skills and that has been really awesome to watch as a teacher how students are supporting others in learning the language.
My Project
Students have returned to the classroom and we are working on building reading and writing stamina. I hope the incentives will give the push students need to stay focused and finish their books. The incentives that I included are sensory toys, pencil erasers, and animal bookmarks. It's important that students have the opportunity to read in both languages since they are in Dual Language school and I think the incentives will really give them that push.
The stickers will be helpful so that our classroom library stays neat and organized.
Once students are ready for that next level, they will know to move on to that next color of books. They will also know how to organize the library independently after reading a book which will be helpful as students are choosing different books throughout the year. The resources that will help us stay organized are the tape and color-coding labels. As for students who are still in the emergent stages of reading, I am using the color-coded index cards so students can practice the frequently used words in Spanish.
