Getting Our Game On Through Hands-on Learning

My students need hands-on activities like Operations Cards, Multiply-Divide and Conquer and Math Star Word Problem Game to improve math fluency and computation skills.

My Students

My classroom is filled with a diverse group of enthusiastic learners who strive for excellence on a daily basis. I have found that through the introduction of various hands-on activities and cooperative learning opportunities, the student have gained a better knowledge of their basic math skills.

My students are a diverse group of learners who are eager to learn.

They are all special and unique in their own way and this goes along with their learning styles as well. My students have shown that they work and learn best when they are involved in collaborative group settings. Our school is the most culturally diverse school in our county which leads to having to meet the needs of many different learning styles.

My Project

Due to varying basic math skills fluency at the sixth grade level(i.e.multiplication facts, long division, fractions,etc) it can become very frustrating and confusing for a child. My goal is for the games, manipulative, and study aids requested in this grant to be used as tools to help my students become more fluent in their basic math computation. These materials will assist my students in achieving greater success at mastering their essential math computation skills, which will help them to build confidence in themselves as mathematicians.

As a result of hands on activities, such as math games and manipulatives, my students have increased their eagerness for learning, which will put them into a position to ultimately increase their desire for achievement and the desired outcome of educational excellence that we are held to and that we are working so hard to attain.
