Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our music room is a safe and fun place where my students make music together. They walk into the room, I grab my ukulele, and we sing hello to each other. Despite challenges they might have, I want my students to find comfort in music.
I teach every class in our school from Pre-Kindergarten to 5th grade, nearly a total of 500 students, at a Title I elementary school in Washington Heights in Manhattan, New York City.
Many of my students come from a Hispanic background. For most of them, our music class is the only opportunity for their music lessons. Therefore, I want to make our time together as meaningful as possible.
Our school maintains relatively small class sizes, and that enables teachers to give more tailored instruction, but this is a factor which contributes to a tight budget. In addition, a lot of students come from low-income families. Nevertheless, I am determined to do my best not to let those factors stand in the way of my students getting the resources they deserve. I hope to provide them with the right tools and opportunities through the support here at DonorsChoose.org.
My Project
Cleaning, done! Inventory, done! Now, it's time to get seriously organized! My students and I are lucky to have a spacious music classroom with a priceless view of the George Washington Bridge. While our classroom has much potential, it still needs lots of work. Since I took over the music teacher position during the last academic year, I have voluntarily spent endless extra hours cleaning the music room and the giant walk-in closet. I went through SO MUCH stuff that had been accumulated for many decades.
Now that I have a good idea of what is available and what is needed, I would like to dive in to some serious organization.
Right now, about 25 music stands are standing in the walk-in closet, occupying a lot of space. Therefore, my students and I would love to receive this Manhasset Music Stand Storage Cart, which holds up to 25 music stands. Having this music stand storage cart will be very helpful because I can organize all the music stands without wasting space. I will be able to move the entire set of music stands around the room as well. As a music teacher, I am passionate about teaching my students how to read music. I am slowly but surely teaching my students music theory and music notation, and I know I will soon start using the music stands with sheet music.
A well-organized and thoughtfully arranged classroom makes a huge difference in learning. I know every little choice makes a difference, and I make every decision carefully. This music stand cart will help my students and I have an effective classroom setup where learning is more absorbed. Please consider helping my students by bringing this project to life. Thank you for taking your time and reading our story!
