Getting in Their Heads with Disarticulating Skull Models
My students need 2 disarticulating skull models to truly learn the details of the skull bones. It teaches them practical visual learning not possible from pictures.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most people can name less than 10 bones in the body. There are 206! My anatomy and physiology course preps students for careers in life science and healthcare. For many students, it is the first time they are getting their hands on models and learning something other than what is written in a textbook.
My students come from very diverse backgrounds and experiences.
What they share in common is the ambition to take a challenging course that will hopefully improve their future. So many of them signed up because they want to go into healthcare and help people. They want to be anything from a medical assistant to heart surgeons. One common theme I see is that they have been inspired by an illness of a loved one to enter healthcare and make a difference. They never fail to impress me with their willingness to work hard and never give up. This is why I want to create the best anatomy course possible to help them fulfill their dreams.
My Project
Models are essential to the teaching of anatomy. Lab practicals are usually quite a change from how they are used to learning in school but they had better be ready, because they are coming in college. You can not have lab practicals without models. These models will not only teach about the skull but they will teach my students how to better learn about the human body. These skulls will really help to enrich my teaching of human anatomy and how the body is incredibly designed.
Please consider helping with this project.
I promise you that these models will be used extensively every year. You never know, the education you enhance may be that of your future doctor!
