My Students
My student go crazy over Graphic Novels (comic books), the shelves where they are located are perpetually empty! We would love to have more to feed their hunger for reading.
My students are a diverse group gathered from all over our community.
We serve students who are homeless, students who live in million dollar homes, and everyone in between. The one thing they all seem to have in common is a love for Graphic Novels. These books are engaging to a wide variety of readers - and can make readers our of reluctant and non-readers.
My Project
We are seeking to engage more students in the love of reading through boosting our collection where their greatest interest lies - Graphic Novels. Many of our students have limited literacy skills. Graphic novels provide both key vocabulary and cognition skills which increase a student's literacy level. Once they have mastered these basic literacy skills, students usually go on to become highly engaged readers in a variety of formats. We want to see that for ALL of our students.
Please help us to boost literacy skills for ALL of our students in order to reach our goal of having every student become an avid reader and lifelong learner.
