Getting Google With It!

My students need furniture, such as a foam floor mat and bean bags, in order to provide seating options.

My Students

My students and I engage together as a team in learning because I believe it is a two way street. There is aloha and respect in my classroom and together we engage in learning using online tools such as Google Classroom. I've created digital, interactive notebooks where students are provided the scaffolding support they need to achieve the high expectations I've set for them, but they are also given the freedom to express their knowledge in a creative way with my projects I design that are tailored to their needs and interests. I recognize my students are young adults and love to learn in small groups. My goal is to provide them a classroom environment that encourages collaboration and success!

My Project

Aloha! As a veteran teacher for the state of Hawaii for the past ten years, my goal this next school year is to take my teaching to the next level by creating a "Google work culture" using a variety of seating options. During the school year, my students engage in science using digital resources: interactive notebooks (which I have created), Google Classroom, Google Drive, and eScience. I recognize that my students are social sixth graders who enjoy working on the computers, but also need to learn how to work well with each other. With your help, I can create a fun working environment promoting a culture of learning using a variety of seating options.

My goal this year is to create a productive, working environment by using a variety of seating options in order to encourage my students to work cooperatively using collaborative conversations.

My school is a TRIBE school, which focuses on building positive relationships between students and staff. With the following furniture I am requesting, I can provide three seating options for students who demonstrate our TRIBE agreements. One group can use the foam floor mat with the laptop lap gear, which will offer a relaxing "hang loose" approach towards working together. Another group can use the bean bag seats and lap gear to work comfortably on their digital notebooks and prepare for presentations. The final group of three can use the folding chairs and lap gear to encourage teamwork.

In closing, I believe by making a variety of seating options available to students who strive for excellence, I will motivate students to work together. It will be a privilege they can earn and hopefully realize that learning science is fun together. Mahalo for your time and consideration!
