Getting Fit With Technology...Being Healthy Can Be FUN!
My students need 1 Computer Tablet and 1 projector in order to incorporate technology into our Physical Education class through the use of videos and interactive activities.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Physical Education is slowly but surely being eliminated from our school systems. There is a greater focus on teaching students to "pass a test" than to teach our children how to live a healthy, active lifestyle. Childhood obesity is rising at alarming rates. It's up to US to MAKE A CHANGE!
My students are special and unique, but at the same time like most kids their age.
They are full of hopes and dreams. They are eager to do the right thing. Unfortunately, dreams and motivation alone are not enough. Our school is a Title 1 School (mostly low income families), therefore many of them live in Trailer Parks and Fish Camps. Needless to say, life is not easy for them. They need something to be excited about.
My Project
I am requesting an iPad and hopefully in the near future a Projector, in order to be able to incorporate technology into our physical education program. We don't have a gym but we do have a shelter where we do as much as possible with the VERY limited equipment we have. We are practically down to a few jump ropes, a couple of All-Purpose balls and some hula-hoops. Under the shelter we would be able to project different health and exercise videos on the wall. There are many workout videos and fitness apps we'd be able to stream over WiFi or 3G with hundreds of routines to choose from. With a projector it can be used to lead a class through a variety of different group exercises. We can even use music! How cool would that be?!
My students have the bare minimum in life.
They don't have any kind of exposure to technology, the future. Please help enable my students to live a healthy, active lifestyle, and in the process, expose them to a world they never imagined possible!
More than half of students from low‑income households
