it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My First Graders are amazing kids! They are incredibly energetic and playful. Our school is in a neighborhood that isn't always safe for outside play, so their opportunities to learn how to play together and build their fitness and endurance usually come from school.
Indoor and outdoor recess materials allow students to make choices about their active play, and my students are more engaged and calmer during learning time when they have a chance to run around and expend some energy first!
Unfortunately, we don't have access to the kinds of indoor and outdoor recess toys that will most benefit my students. At recess, my kids just run around on the grass! Even worse, many kids just stand around the entire time. A lot of student conflicts and other behavior challenges can develop at recess when kids don't have anything to play with. This is where you come in!
The river stones and floor surfer will help my learners develop balance while also practicing patience and persistence. The jump ropes and playground balls will allow us to practice sharing and cooperation. The bouncy bands are great for getting wiggles out inside the classroom. We can learn to play some new games with these materials while exercising. The best way for kids to get fit is through lots of inside and outside active, fun play.
I have seen how a good exercise session can positively benefit my students both by teaching them to work together and by ensuring they are calm and ready to learn when playtime is over and it's time to get back to work!
