My students come from a school where they all receive free breakfast and lunch. School is a very important part of their lives. It the place they come for stability. It is the place that makes them feel safe and secure. Through generous donors we are able to help them have what they need.
My students love to read and are always looking for new books and new book series to read.
They love graphic novels but also love non-fiction books especially the ones where they can choose their own ending.
I would like to purchase graphic novels, chapter books and some non-fiction books for them to read.
My Project
My students need more exciting books in our school media center.
Do you remember how excited you got reading your favorite book as a child?
This school year I moved from teaching fourth grade to being our new media specialist. The kids get so excited about coming to the library and love to read. They read all the books they can get their hands on. I am working hard to find different ways to bring books into the media center to help keep this excitement going. As a first year librarian I have set the unrealistic goal of trying to purchase all of the books that the students have asked for. We keep an ongoing list of books they would like to have in our media center.
I am always finding new and exciting graphic novels for our library. The students have also specifically asked for certain chapter books. I would like to get multiple copies of these books. Another genre that our students really enjoy is non-fiction books such as Lion vs Tiger and the non-fiction books where students can choose their own ending.
I know that I can't possibly provide my students with all of the books that they ask for. However, I would like to be able to get them as many of the books as I possibly can.
Whenever, I bring new books into the library the kids get so excited and can't wait for me to bar code them and put them out on the shelves. They would love to have more engaging books to read. By helping us purchase these books you would be helping instill a sense of enjoyment for reading.
