My students need 1 ladybug land kit, 1 raise a frog kit, 1 live butterfly garden, 2 butterfly larvae kits, a plant sensory dome to help teach the class life cycle.
One of the best way to learn is through hands on learning. This learning allows them make connections as they learn. I want to do this through by purchasing caterpillars, ladybugs, tadpoles and plants to help them understand the process of life cycles.
I teach at a Title One school where 93 percent of the students are on free or reduced lunch.
Many of my students do not have access to things outside of their house and the small community around them. They have not had real life experiences that expose them to other than what they read in books. These experiences will help them expand their vocabulary and their knowledge of the world around them.
My Project
The life cycle kits are a great hands on way to help my students make connections to the life cycle unit we study the fourth nine weeks in science. We have read about a couple of different insects and their life cycles. We have also watched videos of these insects going through their life cycle. I am requesting a ladybug land kit, a raise a frog kit, a live butterfly garden, 2 butterfly larvae kits, and a plant sensory dome to help teach the class life cycles. My students would be able to keep a log recording the life cycle of our different insects and amphibians. This would also reinforce our non-fiction text features as they provide illustrations, diagrams and labels about the life cycles. They would also be able to reinforce the standard of comparing two different things. My students have not had the experience of watching real insects and amphibians go through the process of the life cycle. They are very excited at the thought of having these kits in our classroom.
By purchasing these kits for our classroom you can help my students expand their experiences.
They will be able to observe and study each life cycle and compare the different life cycles. Studying these hands on life cycles will help them make connections that they will never forget.
