Getting Drawn Into Coding

My students need a Wonder Workshop Sketch Kit and Whiteboard Mat to help them learn to draw and design through coding.

My Students

I have the best job ever. I get to start each day with high fives and hugs. My students start each day with such joy and excitement. I teach at a very high poverty school. Most of the students receive free lunches and take home backpacks of food on Friday.

In spite of the hardships that many of these students have been through, they still come to school smiling and ready to learn.

My hope for their future is that they will see that they are destined for greatness. I want them to realize that they can rise above anything life throws at them.

These students amaze me daily. They make teaching the most rewarding profession and teach me as much as I teach them.

My Project

The Sketch Kit is an accessory to the Dash robot. My students have been using Dash all year to incorporate coding into different subjects. Having the new Sketch Kit would allow my students to draw and create with coding. My students would be able to practice 2D shapes and their attributes while also learning how writing code tells the Dash robot how to draw the shape.

Using the Sketch Kit will help the students visualize the results from their codes.

When a student is given a coding challenge that is difficult, they can use the Sketch Kit on the mat to see their coding drawn out and help locate and correct errors.

The Sketch Kit and mat is another valuable tool that could help prepare our students for a future full of technology and science.
