Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a visual learner, what kind or learner are you? Many of my students are visual and tactile learners. Children learn best by using all of their senses. Using Play-Doh throughout the day will introduce a tactile option to learning that will connect new information to their prior knowledge.

My students are smart, driven, and very verbal.

They are 95% Hispanic and 5% African American. Most of them do not have a computer or other technology at home. Our school provides a safe environment away from gangs and other socioeconomic limitations. They are exposed to violence and socioeconomic limitations, like lack of food, that others take for granted. In my classroom, they get to dream because the sky is the limit. They've planned future traveling plans, designed their dream homes, and have become celebrated community heroes. The classroom is a safe haven where dreaming high is encouraged. Nothing is impossible when they dream, write, and share their future plans. My students thrive as enthusiastic learners because they are provided with the right education and memories that will last a lifetime. As an educator that's my life-long goal, to continue providing an environment conducive to learning.

My Project

My students curious and on the move all day. They use all of their senses to express themselves. My students love to learn and explore. We use real-world problems to show how math, science, and literacy work together in everyday life. This gives students an understanding of why they are asked to learn what I teach. I'm always looking for ways to help engage students in their learning. Having materials that they can manipulate and touch really solidifies concepts. Our class would use the Play-Doh materials to practice spelling words. Making words with physical materials helps many students to recall the spelling. We will use them to make physical math number sentences. Students can make their own math manipulatives to help them solve word problems. We will use the Play-Doh in science to make models of the Earth's layers & in art they will be making models to practice for their future clay sculptures. The privacy partitions will be used to exhibit out sculptures when they're done.

Our school uses the school's garden as a classroom.

We are outside quite often using all of our senses while engaging and learning. When we have to be in the classroom, we need to be able to use all of our senses there as well. Play-Doh will be a great sensory tool to help students when learning indoors. It feels soothing, and for some kids that is calming tool. It is fun, so kids will be motivated to learn if they get to use the Play-Doh. So please help me fund this awesome project.
