Getting Creative with Clay

My Students

I teach art to elementary, middle and high school students. We enjoy experimenting with a variety of materials and processes in the art classroom! My goal for my students is to incorporate more 3D creations in art in a FUN way.

My students attend a special alternative school.

They all have special needs with a variety of disabilities. These disabilities affect their attention spans and in turn their learning. My students enjoy learning that is FUN, and that keeps them interested! My goal is to keep their attention on something positive and engaging, while incorporating a variety of art content in the classroom. Our school is focused on serving students with behavioral and emotional problems and other special needs. Our students have often had negative experiences at school and need to have positive experiences in order to be excited about school again! The majority of our students come from low income families and need financial assistance for books and other resources.

My Project

I am requesting funds for different clay materials, such as glazes, clay, carving tools, rolling pins etc. These materials would provide our students more access to improving their art skills in an interesting, fun, and positive way! With these materials, I plan to incorporate more sculpture focused lessons, and in turn a deeper understanding of the content through experience. The students would enjoy exploring art history, art appreciation, and new materials and processes with these valuable materials!

This project is so important because it will create a more diverse learning experience in the art classroom, improve students understanding of the content, and provide our students with special needs a positive learning experience.
