This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Having an Elmo (document camera) and markers in my 7th grade math classroom can greatly enhance math projects and lessons by making lessons more interactive and visually clear. The Elmo lets me display student work, math problems, or step-by-step solutions in real time, so everyone can follow along easily. Using markers to write directly under the camera allows us to highlight key points, annotate problems, and demonstrate processes dynamically, which helps students grasp concepts better.

Students will engage actively and collaboratively using the markers and the Elmo document camera during lessons.

For example, in a math lesson on fractions, students can use markers to solve problems on individual whiteboards, allowing for immediate hands-on practice and visual demonstration of their thinking. Meanwhile, the Elmo projects student work or instructional materials clearly for the whole class, fostering shared discussion and modeling.

The goal is for students to develop confidence in expressing their reasoning and to deepen understanding through both individual practice and collective analysis. Using these resources, learners benefit from interactive, visual, and kinesthetic experiences that cater to diverse learning styles, increasing engagement and retention. This approach supports formative assessment as teachers can quickly gauge understanding and provide targeted feedback.

Overall, markers and the Elmo together create a dynamic, student-centered environment that encourages active participation, clear communication, and collaborative learning.

This combination supports active learning, encourages student participation, and makes abstract math ideas more concrete and accessible—perfect for engaging 7th graders in hands-on, visual math projects.
