Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Homelessness, you never think of it as a child but I have them in my room. They sit in my classroom and blend in with the rest, but about 1/3 of our school population lives in shelters around the area.

It is an urban classroom, with kids from all socio-economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds.

They come to school enthusiastic to learn, eat, and socialize. They love the stability a school like ours provides in such a hectic world we live in.

My Project

I am requesting a fun and comfortable place for my students to read. I can already imagine all the books they will want to read just so they can sit on the comfy couches. The novelty of it will create such enthusiasm that it will force me to write another grant but this time for more books.

I want to give my students something they might not even have at their homes.

Since a number of my students live in local shelters, a couch is not something they provide. So having a couch will be something that will increase their consumption of books and also create an inviting classroom.

Having an inviting environment is something all teachers strive to do, and I believe that this addition will create that in my room.
