Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in our room come from very diverse backgrounds, in an urban Bay Area School. Ours is a mild/moderate special day class consisting of students who just need a little more individualized instruction, including a small classroom environment and a tad more scaffolding and extra time working with the Common Core State Standards.

If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.

It is important to me, and to my students, to adjust my teaching to their learning needs. My students all have Individualized Education Plans in order for me create an environment that best fits how they learn.

My Project

This project will make a difference in my student's thoughts on reading and literacy. When my students are interested in a book, they come to class excited, prepared, and ready to learn. Excitement leads to involvement.

I have chose to create a comfortable reading corner in my room that fosters interest in literacy.

I have chosen to do this in order to address my students sensory needs, and focus on the approach of Universal Design for Learning.

I am asking for soft chairs and items that create an enjoyable environment where students can relax and form a positive connection to reading.
