Help me give my students books that look familiar to them. With my newcomers that are Vietnamese and Spanish, I need books that are in their home languages so that they have books for their book bags!
My students are excited to learn every day. They have one year under their belt, so now they can jump right into learning. They come from all around the world and have a variety of life styles and learning needs. With a high poverty level, many of my students face multiple challenges both in and out of the classroom. In our classroom environment, a safe, comfortable place to learn is key!
They are constantly striving to do their best and learn as much as possible.
This is a full class of twenty-eight students this year, so it is going to be a fun-filled exciting year of learning.
My Project
I think having picture books in different languages for my newcomers is very important. I feel bad for my Vietnamese and Spanish students, they don't have books that they can read in their home language. Knuffle Bunny and Snowy Day are classics that we read in our class in English.
These newcomers need books too!
I am trying to build my library so that every student has books that they can access and enjoy! These books will hopefully help these students gain a love of reading and be able to participate in our independent reading times more successfully. I would love to be able to send these books home for families to read together for their homework as well.
