Having finished my 1st year at my elementary school, I have fully realized how lucky I am to be part of such a wonderful school district, with students who are eager to come to school every day, motivated to learn. As part of the CUSD, the children in my 1st-grade classroom are part of a community with a "small town" feel, caring families, and high involvement. The demographics in our school are made up of a high percentage of white and Hispanic students. 50 percent of these children come from low-income families. My district also has a comprehensive ESL program for ELL students, which supplements their language learning while being immersed in the classroom.
No matter their demographic, family background, or academic performance, all of my students deserve to have the best possible experience while in the classroom.
I hope that, in having such a positive atmosphere, students can be a part of engaging learning experiences and remember 1st grade as a meaningful, happy time in their childhood.
My Project
Funding this project would allow the students in my classroom to have more CHOICES when searching for interesting titles to read, both individually or in a whole group setting. These options would expand their skill levels and allow for a variety of topics to be brought up during interacting reading activities and guided reading groups.
Just one of these books could be the inspiration a child needs to become a life long reader and learner.
1st grade is a crucial time in early literacy development and learning to read will benefit these children in all aspects of their lives.
Being a part of these advancements would be much appreciated by everyone in the classroom and make coming to school even more fun!
