Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am an art teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district. My school has a diverse population, with a strong Hispanic presence. My students have a lot of creativity and an excitement for art class that makes teaching them so much fun. They always show up for class and immediately want to know what they are going to make that week.

I love when I can introduce them to new materials and let their creativity fly as they experiment and create.

I have so many genuinely talented artists that to share their creations with me, whether they made it in class or on their own. One of the most positive things about teaching remotely is the new ways it has connected me with my students. Many of them like to email me or text me extra artwork they did on their own and it’s given me new opportunity to get to know them and see their talents and hobbies!

My Project

The students in my district has been learning fully remotely this year and as we start our third quarter of online learning, many of my students are out of the most basic supply necessary for art, paper. This project will help replenish the paper supply so that my students can continue creating fine arts, despite not being in the art classroom.

It will also stock my classroom with some specialty papers for some extra creative projects once we can get back into the classroom!

The materials will help to keep my students' arts education from being interrupted, despite the unique year that we have been having. Thank you!
