My Students

Art can turn a dull classroom into a place where children want to come, knowing they will have fun. Please help me turn my classroom into a place where art is integrated with core curricula to keep my students excited and engaged in their learning.

My transitional kindergarten students are just turning 5.

Our classroom is culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse. Some of the students have special learning needs, and some are learning English for the first time. Our high-poverty, Title I school is located in the San Fernando Valley. They learn best when they are actively engaged in hands-on experiences. We will read age-appropriate literature with science, health, and social studies themes, and use art activities to deepen comprehension and make connections to the themes.

My Project

Art is a good way for children to express their feelings and also to create something new to enjoy and discover the colors. We will use markers, paint, art paper, glue sticks, and craft supplies to make collage and other creative art works related to what we are learning in core subject areas such as social studies and science.

Concepts throughout the year will be enhanced with art and music.

When studying plants, we will decorate planting pots for sprouting seeds. We will paint fabric bags as a fun way to recycle during our Earth Day study. We will use markers and paint to make illustrations to go along with the stories we have read, and the stories we will write together. Magnetic pocket charts can be used to display new vocabulary and artwork. Big books by authors such as Eric Carle and Alexis O'neill will be a great way to motivate the children to create colorful and imaginative illustrations!

Art in the classroom can also be used as a means for students to show what they are learning in other subjects such as science and social studies. Please help me provide experiences for my children that integrate art throughout the curriculum. With your donation, my students will have art and music all year long.
